The UK Build to Rent market has emerged as a fast growing and evolving segment of the UK housing market.
In reaction to rising rental demand and shortfall of supply, institutional investors continue to invest in the UK Build to Rent (BTR) sector.
UK housing stock, which is the oldest in Europe, requires this type of investment. BTR has become an important part of UK’s delivery of a new generation of better quality homes.
Institutional investment into the sector reached c.£1.7bn in the first half of 2021, with the development pipeline in the regions increasing by 20%. Whilst the first wave of BTR development focused on Greater London, since 2018 the balance tipped, with the development pipeline outside of London consistently larger than inside the capital. Opportunities for new schemes across the country are vast and as the government’s levelling up agenda makes some headway, demand for quality, well-managed rental homes is only set to increase.
