Tony Lockwood appointed as Eastern region development director

London, 18th April 2024 - BNP Paribas Real Estate, part of the BNP Paribas Group, a global leader in financial services, today announced that Tony Lockwood has been appointed as director within its development team, covering the Eastern region.

Lockwood joins from Savills where he held the role of associate director for ten years, and was responsible for valuation, development land agency, consultancy and viability. Prior to this, he was an associate partner within Turner Morum LLP’s agency, investment agency and landlord/tenant team.

Tony has advised on projects including Ipswich’s The Mill and Regatta Quay, and Suffolk Coastal district Garden Village housing and employment policy strategy.

In his new role, he will be based in the firm’s Chelmsford office and will advise on immediate and strategic land agency and development consultancy services. Lockwood’s hire is the latest within Tom Stanley’s growing national development & planning team totalling almost 70 people as he rolls out the firm’s strategy to capture increasing demand for infrastructure and regeneration project support across the UK.

James Marner, head of Eastern region development at BNP Paribas Real Estate/Strutt & Parker commented: “The living sector continues to attract significant investment which is weighting the demand for development sites. There are good signs of life out there with a strong strategic market, and national housebuilders buying up stock again, as well as SME’s remaining active on sites under 50 units.

“A serious lack of availability and consented schemes are being put forward, particularly across the East, and this year will be tough with the various elections creating uncertainty both locally and nationally. As such, we are bolstering our team with Tony’s expertise to bolster the expertise of our office in what could make for a landmark era of potential change development opportunities, and increased appetite from our clients.”

Tony Lockwood, director, development at BNP Paribas Real Estate/Strutt & Parker added: “Joining James’s team at this growth stage of the business and of our sector in particular is an exciting move as development demand increases and legislative changes play out. I look forward to bringing my decades of experience to the role, providing strategic insights to our clients, both existing and new.”

Combining the experience and history of BNP Paribas Real Estate and Strutt & Parker, the development and planning teams support landowners, developers, funds and local authorities to unlock development opportunities across all asset types. They have a strong track record in extracting value from complex projects, combining their local knowledge with technical expertise.

The appointment of Tony follows 80 employees being promoted across the firm’s UK business, Aman Panesar being appointed to its central London investment team, and Fran Hardcastle-Brown to its national portfolio team within property management, demonstrating BNP Paribas Real Estate’s continued drive to connect clients with opportunities and sustainable property solutions through expert advice, insight, and financial acumen, supporting them to create long term outperformance and value in a changing world.
