The project involved transitioning from an industrial warehouse office to a purpose-built, dynamic workplace that supports the varied work roles of Arval’s 130 Journey Makers and reflects their brand identity.
Our Approach
The Manchester site and Arval business leadership had two key priorities for their future office: an office that embodies the Arval brand and a space that supports diverse work styles and enhances productivity for all employees. Our comprehensive approach included:
- Developing a strategy for future ways of working
- Establishing workplace principles aligned with this strategy
- Assisting leadership in understanding real estate options
- Ensuring the fit-out was delivered on time and on budget
To bring this vision to life, our strategy team conducted a detailed needs analysis to understand the diverse working styles of the Journey Makers and identify key priorities and gaps. The discovery process involved interviews, focus groups, and commuter analysis, which informed the brief for future ways of working. This evidence-based approach also helped educate leadership on the importance of moving beyond a ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution, securing their buy-in for a workplace design that accommodates different activities and individual needs. The result is an inclusive and purpose-built design tailored to support everyone effectively.
Results Achieved and Added Value for the Client
What was once known as Arval’s satellite office in Manchester is now the benchmark for all future Arval offices. Highlights include:
- Winning the Northern Design Award 2024 for Best Office Design
- Increasing employee engagement and satisfaction, particularly among staff initially sceptical about the move
- Enhancing the office’s location and accessibility, surrounded by amenities and energy
This project has set a new standard for workplace design at Arval and beyond, demonstrating how strategic planning and tailored solutions can deliver outstanding results.
