John Clegg & Co appoints new Head of Asset Management

John Clegg & Co has strengthened its forestry team, appointing Eddie Addis as Head of Asset Management, based at the firm’s Edinburgh office.

He has joined John Clegg & Co, which is Strutt & Parker’s specialist forestry division, to support landowners with all aspects of managing their forestry investments.

Eddie, who joins from Tilhill, has over 20 years’ experience in the forestry sector, most recently leading a team of 40 managing in excess of 80,000ha of privately owned forests across south Scotland and Northumberland. Prior to that, he was involved in securing permission for, and the subsequent delivery of, some of the UK’s largest woodland creation projects in recent decades. He is a graduate of the Scottish School of Forestry, with extensive experience of forest management, timber harvesting and marketing.

Simon Hart, Head of Forestry for John Clegg & Co in Scotland, says: “Eddie has in-depth knowledge of woodland creation, forest management, timber harvesting and the wider rural sector, enabling him to deliver a bespoke asset management service. His appointment will help us to make the most of the opportunities that are opening up for clients as a result of increasing interest in woodland creation and natural capital.”

Eddie says: “It is a crucial time for the forestry sector, with the government committed to increasing the area of forestry and woodland, as part of its strategy to mitigate climate change. Alongside this, there is also a desire to increase the use of wood products in the construction industry, which is also likely to open up opportunities. I am looking forward to building new relationships with clients, agents and stakeholders to expand the amount of forestry under our management, helping landowners to maximise the value of their woodland assets and the income they generate from them.”

John Clegg & Co’s expert forestry and woodland management team advises on everything from large-scale commercial conifer forests through to small-scale mixed amenity woodland blocks. It provides professional guidance on everything from the planting and management of woodlands on estates, to improving timber quality, through to felling and the processing of timber ready for sale.

The team is also experienced in selling all types of woodland, recently adding Harry Graham as a forestry sales agent to its team in Edinburgh.

Harry says: "It is a fantastic time to be involved in the Scottish forestry market, with strong prices being achieved for timber, commercial forestry plantations and land suitable for planting. Activity levels are high and the long term prospects are good, supported by the new markets which are developing for natural capital and woodland carbon."
