Case Study

Ince Castle, Cornwall

Strutt & Parker’s successful marketing and PR campaign attracted an international buyer for historic Ince Castle in Cornwall.

The challenge

Ince Castle is a Grade I listed castle with let cottages, buildings and 190 acres, all forming a private peninsula. The clients wanted to sell the estate as a whole with the tenancies in place whilst maximising value.

The solution

Strutt & Parker recognised the property’s appeal to international buyers and undertook a comprehensive marketing campaign, securing worldwide PR and drawing buyers from their defined search areas elsewhere in the UK. This was thanks to collaboration between five Strutt & Parker teams, drawing on expertise in large estates, residential sales, estate management and marketing. Three buyers were identified before agreeing a guide price sale. The eventual buyers were from South Africa and looking specifically for Lutyens houses in Sussex, but a member of the Country Department drew their attention to this unique Cornish property. The new owner retained Strutt & Parker for ongoing estate management.

James Mackenzie, Head of the Country House Department

“Having managed the estate of Ince Castle successfully for many years, Strutt & Parker had a better knowledge of the property than anyone else, and Director Charles Huntington-Whiteley’s relationship with the owners was extremely strong.“
