Retail Focus Q4 2018
Retail Focus Q4 20182018 will not be looked back upon fondly by occupiers and investors within the UK retail market. The political situation shows no real sign of further clarity, administrations have risen and occupational ambitions have continued to be muted.
There does appear to be somewhat of a disconnect between some of the major retail fundamentals and the volume of negative press surrounding the sector. Undoubtedly there are significant pressures on some retailers, with structural changes impacting the market and increasingly squeezed margins. However, the consumer appears to be in fairly good health – confidence has remained surprisingly robust, employment is at a record high and pay grew at the fastest rate since 2008 in the three months to November 2018.
