The challenges
- Our client owns and occupies a high profile Livery Hall which is a Grade 1 listed building and a Scheduled Ancient Monument. They need to manage and uphold the Hall within a business framework and agreed budgets, whilst meeting rigorous heritage requirements and maintaining a fully operational building.
What we did
We have been surveyors to the Goldsmiths’ Company since 1996 with responsibility for preparing and implementing planned maintenance works and major projects, including:
- External conservation repairs, stone cleaning, redecoration, and provision of lightning protection
- Major services engineering renewals, some involving road closures and crane lifts
- Specialist redecoration of the function rooms and main staircase, including the provision of an electrical winch to its ornamental chandelier
- Provision of disabled access via platform lift within a newly formed entrance
- Careful planning and supervision to ensure no business interruption, meeting summer recess deadlines, multiple phasing of works and segregation of works from public and staff
